After upgrading from 5.5 to 6.0, IE does not completely close the program when exiting.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, do you have a solution?
In order to close the program completely I have to use the Ctrl+Alt+Del method to close the program.

This one's new to me.
I can tell you however, that Win98 and IE 6.0 don't always form a happy couple.
You could try repairing IE (Control Panel/Software Add-Remove/MS Internet Explorer > remove > repair IE)
Or if no joy, return to your previous version of IE: Control Panel/Software Add-Remove/MS Internet Explorer > remove > restore previous Windows configuration.
Good luck, Tony

Thanks Tony, I tried the repair and it was unsuccessful for this particular problem.
I also returned to the previous version but it
did the same thing. I then did a new re-install
and that didn't work.
I've checked my settings, preferences, etc. and
haven't found a solution so I thought I would
check here. Hopefully there aren't any other posters that have this problem as I wouldn't want
to wish it off on them. Thanks again.
Best Regards,
Sharon

It could be a conflict with an internet-related program.
Could you post your startups, please?
Go to Start/run, and type Msinfo32, followed by OK.
Go to Software Environment/Startup Programs.
Now click Edit/'Select all', and then 'copy'
Paste the contents in your post.

Do you need just the program listed or the entire thing such as Loaded from and Command lines as well?

Well, nothing scary there.
You could go to Start/run, type msconfig, and uncheck SXGDSENU and your Wal-Mart connect icon on the Startup tab.
Click OK, reboot, and try again.
If no change, uncheck your two AVG entries, or disable AVG from starting up in the program's options, and try again to see if AVG's the culprit.
Also check your system for spyware, by running Ad-Aware: http://tomcoyote.com/lsindex.html
Have your drives and registry scanned, and have Ad-Aware remove everything it digs up.
Good luck, Tony

I hate to suggest this but it might work or create more problems so it is just for thought, There is a program called IEradicator which will help to completely uninstall all of IE. Maybe a complete clean reinstall may work. I assume you have tried the IE repair tool in accessories system tools? I can provide the site for the IEradicator or you can find it with a google search but Cannot guarantee outcome.

"Wal-Mart Connect Tray Icon Startup Group C:\wmconnect\wmtray.exe -check"
Looks like a service to track your web surfing. Unless it is something that you need running, go to Start, Run, type in msconfig, startup tab and remove the check next to it. Click Apply and OK.
Restart your machine when prompted.
I do not pretend to know what this program is but it has the look of an internet service program that has the capability to maintain an internet connection.

You definitely want to keep SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEMTRAY checked and enabled.
If you are not using the advanced power management options(which is a good idea), you can uncheck and disable both LOADPOWERPROFILE listings.

Thank you. Yes, I did in fact try the repair tool.
I will do a search for the IEradicator and look it over.

"Wal-Mart Connect Tray Icon Startup Group C:\wmconnect\wmtray.exe -check" is my dialup connection. The program must have something built in that checks this as I have repeatedly unchecked it. After restart it is always checked, so I did the cowardly thing and surrendered. haha

Thanks Captain, I frequently check my start up items and uncheck any that I don't use or need to start up. I believe I have it down to the bare bones.
