I've installed Quicktime, and now when I visit a website with a quicktime movie embedded, a security warning comes up saying my current security settings don't allow potentially unsafe information to an ActiveX control. I know I can change these settings, but is this would make it happen for all coontrols, and I would like it just for my quicktime for the obvious security reasons.
any ideas?

killermink,
I don't think it's possible...BUT you could do an experiment.
When IE looks for an embedded object it looks in the C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files directory. These entries can only be removed or updated, not renamed.
If you navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units key and renamed some of those other controls so they wouldn't load, it may be possible.
BTW, When you install Quicktime, it adds an entry to the Run key named qttask. This can be safely removed as it is not neccessary.

I am not too sure I understand what you mean as I have little to none knowledge of ActiveX and stuff!
In my Downloaded Program files folder, I have Shockwave, Windows Update and, quiet sloppily for a major developer, what I guess is the QuickTime control (sloppy cos the only reference to QT is hidden in the url), which has status 'unknown' and Total size as 'None'.
The security settings for my IE6 are all set to their default settings (i.e. medium for Internet).
So why does Shockwave and WinUpdate work fine but QT doesn't? I hadn't had this problem with older versions.
Sorry, but I am not sure quite what else to put, due to my lack of knowledge, I just want embedded movies to work! Hence, feel free to ask q's!!!

To use Qiucktime with IE6, you need a special activex. IE6 doesn't work with Netscape style plugins. .
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.apple.com/quicktime/>http://www.apple.com/quicktime/</a>
Click on the large QT icon, Wait a minute and a screen will appear asking if you want to install the object. Say yes.

Mo's right. My entry looks like this:
Quicktime Object
ID={02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B}
Staus=Installed
Codebase=http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab
I would suggest removing the present one before you visit the site.
If you still have problems, go to a MS-DOS prompt and type the following:
At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt:
cd downlo~1 <and hit Enter>
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files>
dir <and hit Enter>
Post back with the list. You can click the Mark button, then select the test, then open Notepad and paste the text into it.
Now type:
cd conflict.1 <and hit Enter>
If you don't have a conflict.1 directory, you should be fine.

Sorry for the delay in replying!
I uninstalled the control from the downloaded program files folder, then went to the apple.com/quicktime site and started again, but the same problem occured. I then noticed that you can download an full-installer (which I was looking for previously, but missed) so I got that, completely uninstalled quicktime, and installed offline. Now it works fine, with no security warnings. :)
However, in downloaded program files, the control still has the same appearence as before, i.e. status unkown...., not like your quicktime object, but i suppose its no matter cos it works!
By the way, I dont really understand MIME settings, so could someone explain them to me generally? And regarding Quicktime, I would like to set it so that everything that can be handled by WMPXP is, and Quicktime is only used for those files that have to use quicktime. How do I set this?
Many thanks, killermink
