Can restarting the PC too much cause damage? I really hate it when some programs big and all never call for a reboot .Vs the little teeny weeny apps that have to reboot...
Is their anyway to avoid a reboot after an install perhaps by shutting down certain running processes?
Can restarting a PC too much damage it?
WinGuides is the best!

Normally a reboot is required to ensure the required drivers are loaded for the application to run properly. If you want to ensure that the application is initialized properly then do the reboot. There is no harm in restarting your computer. In fact it's always a good thing to do as most of your early warning systems are active during POST e.g. SMART on hard drives. If you don't shut down periodically you could end up with a crashed drive and no way to recover.

i assume this thread is done now but i will add my two cents anyway. The rummor that rebooting can be hard on your system was started because there is a time when it is hard on a machine to boot. Simply called a "Cold Boot" this haptens when a machine hasent been running for a long time. The warming and cooling process of the compontents causes streess that eventually leads to failure...not to worry though...it takes a long time usually. Another thing to avoid is to shut down and then suddnly decide to boot up again and start your machine up as the HD is whirring to a stop...not good
Just in case you wanted to know

Thank you both for input is better than none... About starting a PC back up a second after it boots down I know is a bad move but tell me your opinion on this... How many times on average do you think a PC can boot reboot before it starts to damage itself?
I just for some reason feel in my heart rebooting too much is bad because like scroll lok says if you turn your PC off and then quickly turn it back on thats bad... Isnt that what rebooting is?

If you reboot the way you should, through Start/Restart the computer, it's no problem at all, and you can do it as many times as needed.
Doing it by turning your PC off and then quickly turning it back is a nono, because Windows then hasn't the time to properly terminate running processes.
If ever you're obliged to do the latter, because of Windows hanging, always do a Scandisk directly on reboot, in case Scandisk doesn't kick in automatically.
Cheers, Tony
