I have migrated to Win2000 from Win98. I used Microsoft Family Logon for Win98 where the profiles were listed and you could click on the profile/desktop that you wanted to activate, rather than having to type in your logon / password. Is this sort of thing possible with Win2000?

Not necessarily point and click on the user, but you can add as many users as you'd like in win2k. They will have to enter a user name and pw though.
Each user will be given their own profile.

I realise this, but what I want to achieve is the ability to point and click on a profile name without having to type in a user name

It doesn't work like that. Win2kpro is for security if you give someone the user name they are 50% on the way to hacking in to your machine.. if you don't like it buy another OS
