I have 2 cd rom drives installed on my dual boot win 2k pro and win 98 system. One cd drive has failed and I have removed it to be repaired/replaced under warranty. Before physically removing it, I ran add/remove hardware and removed it from the installed devices list (win 2k pro). The problem now is that win 2k pro takes forever to boot, it still seems to be looking for the now missing cd drive. Win 98 does not have this problem. I have also had this problem before when removing a cd rom drive when I had win xp pro installed. If I re-connect the drive, win 2k pro boots fine. How do I overcome this problem?
