Howdy gang! As most of us have Anti Virus running in the background & a Firewall, I've also got Ad Subtract, & POW then I have a Firewall utility called ZoneAlarm (phew) My question is I'm going to put a Anti Trojan utility how much more resources do they use is it much?? ---Hally---

Hey hally,

nice boobys in swordfish ;) just kidding but an anti virus (a good one should also detect trojans) try that to help conserve resources instead of running two different programs that will multi task behind your back...

Also POW I believe is a pop up killer (If I am correct) may I ask what broswer do you use to access the net with?

If your answer is IE, you must for a fact try out MyIE 3.2 MyIE will never not once bother you if you set it correctly unlike most other anti pop up software.

Its fast, small (300k) and will improve your browsing experience by 100% in comparison to IE.

(sounds like I am advertising huh) No doubt the best anti pop up killer on the market (I use it and havent seen a pop up in months).

I love it, write back and tell me if you enjoy it ;)

I like pow cause you have control over what popups get killed... I have set it up so the wife has her own pow settings folder and I have mine cause we both kill different pop ups some of them she wants to keep....
It looks like you popup killer kills all and that is not what you need... some popups you want to keep...

A AV programs dosen't catch a trojans useless they are classified as a virus....

The Good trojan checker will monitor the start up stuff for changes while you are on the net.... It keeps a list of files and detect changes....

The one I use has pinged on me a few times making changes...

Thanks
Mac!!!

This Is just my opinion
So if it stinks wait for another one

as far as resources go the size of the resources is a set size and you cannot change that.... it stays the same wether you have 16mg or 520mb

you need to know if you have enough ram and puter speed to run a extra program....

Thanks

Hey, dont get me wrong but with MyIE you can control pop-ups in two ways...

You can control what pop-ups show up using the browsers built in pop-up filter or just do what I do, deny every automatic pop-up I dont trigger with a click to be suppressed and never bother me.

I seriously find that so valuable as I've personally downloaded the AnalogX (great programmer) POW program and have tried it. I've also tried countless others and none can supress pop-ups better than the new version of browsers out: i.e. FastBrowser 4.3.0 (1.18 megs to 1.23 megs Shareware) or MyIe 3.2 (300k Freeware).

What else is amazing about these browsers are thier tabbed system which helps to preserve resources in the sense of browse with only one window instead of many.

Definately killer browser apps!

I hardly use Anti-Trojan software as I really just rely on my Anti-Virus by Mcafee to catch'em (helps preserve resources) . One way to conserve resources if you insist on getting one and not damage -your browsing habits for sure is to turn off the 247 monitoring by the programs as any Anti-Virus or Trojan software that runs and scans (everything you do) behind your back can eat up plenty of good resources significantly.

Best bet unless you download from anonymous users files that could potentially damage your computer is to turn off all monitoring and then scan only when needed.

Definately helps improve system performance.

I hope I helped :)

Ok!! By the way you said it.... it sounded like you had no options to be selective... when you said I haven't seen a pop up in months... Well DAH on ME! I guess I assumed cause I have also tried a few and they all have not given an options.... They just killed all...

LOL when I see a new one I just add it to pow.....

I leave all of the third party stuff running cause I don't trust the ad site they have been redirecting people to bad site (LIKE P*O*R*N) and dropping dialers and .dll files into the registry.. to take over you puter..... Sorry but I think they should be outlawed... But that is big buisness now....

That kind of stuff is what gives the net a bad name

Don't get me wrong it is not just P*O*R*N sites pulling this....

I am always in search of freeware that makes a difference. Hopefully one day I'll have one piece of software that does it all :)
In reply to:

...I don't trust the ad site they have been redirecting people to bad site (LIKE P*O*R*N) and dropping dialers and .dll files into the registry.. to take over you puter.....

Hey I've got the software that'll turn that into history... Just imagine this scenario, someone accesses your computer's C:\ drive (or whatever drive for that matter) and they by stealth inserted as many viruses and trojans as they can possibly muster and they deleted critical system files, dropped .dll's into the registry and have added nothing but junk ([censored], etc) to your computer in hopes of some sort of sabatoge... Now that your computer is wrecked what do you do?

If I told you that if it happened to me I wouldnt worry because one reboot would have my computer so pristine and back in shape it'll all be like it never happened in the first place...

Amazing, I live by it and reformatting and repartioning my computer is a thing of the past. The software that makes it all possible is WinRollBack by Datapol.

Definately keeps a PC's shape in top condition and I live by it. I hope you enjoy it Coolsights and Hally, it's one secret given away for free :)
