I am getting the bsod, it states inaccessible_boot_device. I'm using a hard drive that has been replicated (mirrored). Its running W2000. The hard drive boots fine in some pc's, but won't in a Compaq. Has anyone every seen this?

Yes. You will get an inaccessable boot device in W2K if the image that was mirrored is installed in a unit with a different chipset or different chipset revision. W2K needs access to the IDE controller information in the registry during boot. If this information conflicts with the current setup then you will get the BSOD.

What chipset is used on each machine?

Where do I go to find the chipset? (sorry for my ignorance)

If you download and run hwinfo32 from the attached URL, you will find the chipset information in the PCI Bus section.

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.hwinfo.com/>http://www.hwinfo.com/</a>

Get the details from both units and post the information.

from the ipaq:
Intel 82815

from the gateway:
Intel 82443BX

These are two totally different chipsets and the drivers are incompatible. The best solution is to re-install W2K on the iPaq.

How about running sysprep from M$ before you transfer drives from the machine that it was loaded from to the machine it is going to?

I've never used sysprep therefore don't know if that would resolve the problem or not. If you provide the details maybe Rebecca will want to give it a try.

Cheers
