Software File (W2K)

Is there a way to safely edit the "Software" file in C:\WINNT\system32\config? I would like to clean it out if possible. It has grown to 14 MB.

The software file is your software hive in the registry. You can use regclean or some other third party utilities to clean out the registry and get rid of entries that are no longer required.

A word of caution, you should back up your registry prior to doing any maintenance.
