Add/Remove Programs Dialog (W98)

A software that seems to be installed properly does not show in the Add/Remove Programs dialog. The Reg-Key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall is ok. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Im just assuming may be that the value "DisplayName" has no text inside it.

It can occur if a program's DisplayName or uninstall key name is longer than 63 characters.

The MSDN Library.

Maybe this will help: I installed the newest distribution (jan/02), keeping the last on disc. The i removed the Oct/01 edition, thinking everything is ok, as it was always before. Then i encountered problems with the new edition (Jan/02), i removed it and reinstalled the Oct/01 version. And now the Add/Remove Dialog can not be convinced to show up the Oct/01 Remove.

well, I got out my old MSDN Library and ran the install.

I got an entry in Add/Remove Programs

It also created these keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\HTML Help Collections\Developer Collections\0x0409\0x035726d90 with the (Default) value being MSDN Library - Visual Studio 6.0

This is what appears in Add/Remove Programs.

It also appears under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\IE4\Dependan t Components

and finally under KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Uninstall\Microsoft Developer Network - Visual Studio 6.0

with this UninstallString:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MSDN98\98VS\1033\Setup\Setup.exe
