Is there any way to force Windows to arrange icons in the Quicklaunch Toolbar in a particular way? I arrange them a certain way, but every time I restart, it rearranges them randomly. Not alphabetically, by date or size, but randomly...

Thanks much :)

While there may be other ways to accomplish this is what worked for: Win2K seems to display them in the order in which they were added to the quick launch bar so I took them all out and added them in in the order that I wanted them displayed. Its been over a year and so far they are still in that order. I made my Win2K look like Linux KDE and for the taskbar to look that way I needed to have the icons in the quick launch bar in a particular order.

Nope, I'm logged in as Administrator and have total control over everything else...

I've had Windows for a while now. I'm wondering whether, like all other Microsoft software, it's time to reinstall, if only to get rid of these quirks...

I don't know whether this qualifies as a hack, a workaround, a solution, or something else. But it works.

Download and install Ninotech Date Edit. It's a useful tool beyond solving this problem.

Go to Windows Explorer, your Quick Launch folder, right click on the folder and choose Edit Date, check Recurse Items, and click OK. The Create Date of your links in the Quick Launch folder will be set to the Create Date of your Quick Launch folder. Quick Launch folder links appear to display sorted first by their Create Date and then by the link name.

Thanks Ken...that *is* a good tip. I don't think it would work in my situation, though, since the whole problem was that my links weren't ini the right order, alphabetically or date-wise.

In any case, I've upgraded to WinXP and it seems to be working well.
