I had some partitions on my harddisk. Windows 98 installed, but on the extended partition Windows 2000. I deleted W98, and reinstalled it, but the multi-os choice is gone. How do I handle this problem?

The reason you have lost the multi OS selection is that your boot partition is now a standard Windows 98 boot partition. If you want the multi boot option back then just re-install Windows 2000 in the same directory.
Windows 2000 recognizes the Windows 98 boot partition and replicates it so that the Windows 98 boot sequence can be used if Windows 98 is selected from the boot menu. Windows 98 however, does not recognize the Windows 2000 boot partition as it was developed well after Windows 98 shipped. For this reason you need to install Windows 98 first and then Windows 2000 for the dual boot capability (unless you use third party boot managers).

Thanks very much for your reply. Now I got another problem. On my 2000-partition is much data stored, so I really don't want to clear that partition. I think you'll understand. Is there maybe a possibility to change a few settings in MSDOS.SYS and BOOT.INI so I can get the boot-menu back?

You could still re-install W2K without having to wipe out the drive. Just be careful not to reformat.
