Hidden Desktop Icons

My desktop icons have became hidden from view, even if I move shortcuts etc onto the desktop from folders they become hidden. What registry setting do I need to change to allow desktop icons to be displayed.

Before you try the link below, I was pretty sure there was an option in the display properties somewhere that if you have active desktop enabled you can hide the icons on your desktop. I remember doing that on win98se, but I can't seem to find it on Win2k server.
