I have a Dell Pentium II and am receiving the following error on startup

An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C14E904 in VxD RMM(01) +
00000554. This was called from 0028:C144E8FE in VxD RMM(01) + 0000054E. It may
be possible to continue normally.

I called Dell and first they told me it was my printer. But it didn't help when we disconnected my Epson 640.

We then went through rebooting with an old system registry through scanreg /restore.

Today when I needed to restart, the same error occured. Now I am down to only one good registry from about a week ago. The "five" spaces they give you are fillig up with "failed" startups. Now I am afraid to turn my machine off!

I have read that an RMM file is a Real Video system file so I uninstalled Real ---but no luck.

What can I do?

I, too, have a Dell PII (400MHz). I've had issues related to USB that resulted in fatal 0e's.

Have you added or removed any USB devices? Do have the latest Bios for the motherboard? (for the PII400 board the lastest version is A13)

Can you think of any other changes that may have occured before this problem surfaced?

Also, here's a resources on 0e's. Already looked for yours in there and didn't find it. But, you may still find it useful.

gbochanski,

Right-click on my Computer, choose properties, click the Device Manager tab. Look for anything with a red or yellow "flag" next to it.

Also, click the Performance tab and see if both Virtual Memory and File System are running in 32-bit mode.

Post back with the results.

reghakr:
I have found a solution!!
I ran scanreg /fix, then
scanreg /opt then
I defraged and the error is gone.
I also note that my rb00*.CAB files have started now to be replaced as I restart each day.

I did check as you asked:
no flags and both are running 32 bit.

Thank you for your interest and help. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time.

Way to go! Many times I use that one first, in this case, of course, I didn't.
