I am using 98SE and I was wondering if downloading VBScript version 5.6 is a good idea? I believe my version is 5.5.0.6330. The reason I am asking is because sometimes I get an ERROR message which reads "error MS visual basic C++" or something similar and then everything will completely freeze up. Ctrl + Alt + Delete does NOTHING or will not even come up. Any suggestions appreciated. JR

ciscoman,
I believe that error message refers to a DLL problem, not vbscript.
Need more info on the error message.

What I really would like to know is if I should UPGRADE to the newer vbscript 5.6 version? What is your opinion?

ciscoman,
I'm one of those people that need the latest version of anything new...for the most part.
I've benn running 5.6 since it was first released.
No problems. It's not like it's a major re-write, it's a minor update.

I was at the Windows Update site recently and I didn't see anything on the vbscript upgrade so I'm guessing that it isn't too important, correct??

Check out this link. I'm not sure right off hand, if this takes you to a page for Win95, but I'm sure you could find for 98. I don't know that this is exactly what you need, but.........

Btw, that sort of thing won't be mentioned on the Windows Update Site. If you start having errors, that should tell you whether it's important or not.

you are right about whether it is important or not, the error only happens once in awhile but I have never been able to find an answer as to why it may be happening. I decided to upgrade to vbscript 5.6 so I will see if it help any.

I don't do anything with Video Studio as far as I know but I checked out what version of comctl32.dll I have as compared to what it said on the link and I think my version is even newer so whatever that means. Thanks ciscoman

They don't put beta software on Windows Update.

Why do you call it beta?

ciscoman,
If you go to the <a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/vbscript/scripting.asp>Scripting site</a>
you'll see Scripting 5.6 Beta Download
Beta software is in the testing stages and not fully released to the general public. You knew that, didn't you?

Yes I know what beta software is but I didn't know the 5.6 version was a beta upgrade or I did not see where it said that it was a beta release.
