Problem with latest intellimouse optical drivers

When i use the latest drivers for my intellimouse optical mouse the pointer "jumps around" when moving the mouse quickly across the screen. I don't really need the latest drivers if it weren't for the option to remap the mouse buttons for specific applications.

Does anybody know how i can fix the glitchy pointer problem, or a software that allows me to remap the buttons separately from the drivers?

I had a similar problem and the solution was to change the mouse pad. Something about the contrast/texture of the surface. I had the blue one with the water drops and am now using a gray cloth surface.

I had similar problems like Bert. Using the mouse on a desk that was dark brown or black, the pointer wouldn't scroll smoothly. Something abouth the way the red light is reflected of a dark surface. I put down a mouse pad and it was fine. Good Luck.
