Hello! How do we add an item in the context menu when we right-click the desktop (not when we point a file)? I`ve got an idea to put shorcut to Notepad or to other programs there, so I don`t need to go to start menu. Just right click the desktop and done without pointing a file. Is it possible?
Ok, thank you so very much for your help!

Hi rose,
why not just put a shortcut in your "Quick Launch" toolbar. That way its only a click away, not two

I'm a newbie, take it easy on me

Hi!
I spend quite a time on this but...
The answer that you get mostly get is, that it isn't possible. This is of course something that you don't want to hear, so let's work around.
It would be possible if you wrote a dll and properly registered it. It is possible to expand the menu in this way - there is a little program called "Save Desktop Layout" which adds two commands to the desktop context menu. Unfortunatelly, I don't have access to it now - it's at my parent's computer. Have a look in the software archive at www.pcworld.com .

I had exactly the same idea as you do - at work I use Linux and I like the idea of start menu in the desktop context menu. I have to do without it but I'm still working on it.

What you might like is a program called Fast Folders (look in www.winfiles.com or at Yahoo!). This allows you to browse also My Computer from within the context menu. I know, it's not what you're asking for but it might help.

Or, create a folder with everything you want to have in the context menu, place the link to it on the desktop, make it transparent (no image, make the text transparent with e.g. Desktop Transparency) and use Fast Folders. When you right click on the icon (which is not visible now), you'll see "Fast Folders" submenu which includes all the programs you want to run. And if these are commands in fact, you can do whatever you want. And if you place more such links on the desktop...

That has just ocurred to me, give it a try and work on it.

Michael

Thank you, Michael and Dirk. I love clean desktop and clean Quick Launch as well, but I just don`t know if that`s so complicated... "Save Dektop Layout" sounds good to me, I`m gonna search for it.
Anyway, good luck and thanks!
