tool bar help

recently, on the bottom of my screen, in the little space that shows which programs are running, something with a globe icon and the words "Entire Network" showed up and I can't get it off.
it doesn't seem to be doing anything, but since i'm not hooked up to a network i'd like to get rid of it as i find it bothersome (my own obsessive-compulsive habits, of course).
any help would be greatly appreciated.

none that i can recall. it happened a couple of weeks ago, seemingly out of the blue, but i could be mis-remembering anything i did around that time.
