View Full Version : changing windows98SE startup splash screen

i've been modifying my splash screen in windows, and i've got the two shutdown screen done but i cannot find the startup file anywhere. i know that it is logo.sys located in the c:\ but its just not there. i've tried searching for it with the windows search tool, tried manual lookin around, my folders are set to show all. its not in the c:\windows folder either, its not anywhere!!
anyone got any ideas?

Going from memory (and I'll take a few minutes to search the web and verify this), but I thought you had to CREATE the logo.sys file to use. First make a logo.bmp file of the way you want the splash screen to look, then rename it to logo.sys, then place it in the correct directory. Like I said though, I'll double check to make sure...

The Windows startup splash screen is located in io.sys, thats why you can't find it. The article you have been pointed to gives some pretty good info but I'll add some comments of my own: When you create any of the three splash screens they need to be 320x400x256 and it is best to start with 320x300 and when you have the graphics looking the way you want stretch it to 320x400 otherwise it will be distorted when it is displayed during bootup. There are several freeware programs to put in animated effects. The only one I can remember is XRX Addabar. Do a search on the net and you should be able to find a download link.
