Hi,
How do I get AOL to load automatically and connect with DSL when the computer boots? I know it is possible because I had installed the internet sharing software that came with my Netgear switch and it automatically loaded and connected when I booted. However, the sharing software does not work with AOL, so I uninstalled it and using ICS instead.
Thanks

Hi,
Because I have to connect through AOL to initiate the DSL connection. The DSL is through AOL. I don't like AOL myself but I only pay $31 a month for it through a special when purchasing a new PC. Anyone know the answer to my original question?

Describes things a little more for me here. You mentioned a NetGear switch, how many compuers are you using? Having never used AOL DSL, is it an "always on" connection, or do you need to turn it on each time the computer boots up? If so, what do you do to get the AOL DSL active? I'll see if I come up with anything based on what you give me /images/forums/icons/smile.gif

Hi,
There are 4 computers connected to the switch. AOL DSL is not always on, I need to logon a special version of AOL, to get the DSL active. Basically, I need the AOL application to open up automatically and initiate the logon process automatically when the host machine boots up. I am using ICS to share the connection. If I used the sharing software that comes with the Netgear software, it sets it up in a way that it would open AOL automatically and would connect to AOL automatically but unfortunately the sharing part does not work with AOL so only the host machine would get the connection. But this leaves me to believe, there is something in the registry that I can modify to accomplish this.
Thanks for your efforts.

So if you manually login to AOL, the DSL connection is shared with no problem?

Correct.
I just want it to connect automatically for my convenience so I don't need to attach a monitor and mouse to the server, host machine to manually connect it.

Well if you were to add AOL into the startup programs, would that be enough to get it to login?

There isn't a registry hack for this dilemma. As you know, the problem is that you have to sign on to AOL.
Here's a program, named buzof (no pun intended)

that will auto click the Sign On screen. (this program will be running in the background).
the setup =
create a shortcut from the AOL executable and place it in the startup folder. Then when you boot the pc the aol screen will appear and the buzof program will auto click the sign on button.
