Hey all I found this on the wilders site what I need to known will I cause any adverse affect by doing this......

The bad news is that windows(98) has a built in bit that allows outsiders
(any site) to read, write, and edit (in other words, to "hack") your Windows
registry. This can cause many problems for you, such as making your browser
behave strangely, causing programs to hang up or not function, and launching
programs you don't want to run.

The Windows program that allows the hacking is called REGWIZC.DLL
(registry wizard control module).

The good news is that you can disable it so that it does not allow scripts on
web sites you visit to hack your registry. Here is how to disable it:

1. Click on - taskbar/start menu/run
2. Copy and paste the following line into the run field:
regsvr32.exe -u c:\windows\system\regwizc.dll
3. Click OK. You should get a popup message confirming the successful disabling
of regwizc.dll.

It is also possible to re-enable regwizc.dll, if you should later decide to allow
outsiders to get into your registry. I can't think of any reason why you should,
but this is how to do it:

1. Click on - taskbar/start menu/run
2. Copy and paste the following line into the run field:
regsvr32.exe -c c:\windows\system\regwizc.dll
3. Click OK. You should get a popup message confirming the successful disabling of
regwizc.dll.

Hi,

Do you know how to put remote registry access on without running a network server. I have 3 CPUs at home running win98 and it would sure be nice to be able to access them all from one spot.

Thanks,
Dcik Peck

You might what to start your own thread for your question! Press new post when you are on the page that shows the list of post under a heading. I don't claim to know enough about networks to even touch your questions. And you only need to post it in one heading the way this site is set up people can check all headings for new post easy...

And check this box so you will get a email if you get a reply

Email all replies to my real email address

Good Luck!

Ok who is the network guru around here HELP!

Thanks

Coolsights2000,

Take a look at this thread: <a target="_blank" href=http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65700&highlight=regwizc.dll>http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65700&highlight=regwizc.dll</a>

WhitPhil's right about this: Wilders.org may have alerted us all to something already sorted out by MS long ago.

I did some more research on it, and it appears to be correct.

So let's all relax.

Greetz, Tony
