I recently had to uninstall my Trend PC-cillin anti-virus because the uninstall function wouldn't work. I wrote to Trend PC-cillin and they e-mailed me very detailed instructions to manually remove it. If your check your Read-me file in your McAfee menu, they will give the e-mail address or phone no. of the company. In my case, it required deleting from the registry which is very complex and you must have implicit instructions to do that.

McAfee does have instructions on how to unistall manually from the registry.
**********************
It does require a registry edit. Mcafee tends to leave lots of stuff behind after you uninstall it, and sometimes, if you try to reinstall another antivirus product, (or even Mcafee again), it can cause problems.
Here is the link for the complete manual uninstall instructions. "http://www.mcafeehelp.com/"
After you click on the link and go to the site, look on the left side of the screen, click on the "down arrow" next to "Choose a Product Below". Choose your version of Mcafee, then another box loads,(Choose A Category Below), click the "down arrow", scroll down to "Install/Uninstall", click on it.
Another box loads,(Select FAQ document below", then scroll down to manual removal of your particle version of Mcafee, click on it. The instructions will be displayed on the right side of the page, you can print them out, and follow the directions.
It tells you how to make a backup of your registry, in case you make a mistake, and then tells you step-by-step how to manually remove the program. It's fairly extensive, but the instructions are fairly easy to follow.
********************
Extra instructions in Addition to the ones from McAfee's site. Those instructions are not enough to make sure you've removed all references. (I went through this awhile back)
Go to Start > Run > Sysedit:
Do a search in the Autoexe.bat and look for a line referring to virus scan and backspace and delete the whole line.
Then search in System.ini. for McAfee, network associates, and virusscan, and remove all references found.
Do a dry run in Windows Explorer and search for any references to McAfee, before deleting references in registry.
Backup Registry first then:
Start > Run > Regedit Do a search for McAfee, network associates, and virusscan (typed exactly as shown), one at a time.
Instr. for removing references in Registry:
Open Registry Editor by clicking on Start-Run, type "regedit" (without the quotes). Backup registry by choosing Registry on the toolbar > choose Export Reg. entry. Named box type: 'Backup' > save to your desktop.
When Regedit loads, click on "Edit" in the upper left of the window, choose "Find" from the menu. When the "find" window loads, type "Mcafee"(without the quotes), then click on the "Find Next" button.
It will begin searching the registry for entries that have Mcafee in them. When they come up delete them by right-clicking and choosing "Delete", or if its a folder on the left side of the screen, highlight it and press the "Delete" key. After the first entry comes up, you continue the search process by pressing the F3 key on the keyboard, and continue doing this 'til all Mcafee entries are gone.
Then, do another "Edit-Find" in Regedit, but type in "Network Associates"(without the quotes), and delete any entries that come up with that search. That should get rid of all possible registry problems from Mcafee. You might want to do a "dry run" of this before actually doing the deletions.
******************************************
FYI
It won't hurt anything to leave a few .dll files in the Common Files folder. Sometimes those .dll files are used by other programs and deleting them could cause a problem with the other program. They don't take up much space, and as long as you edit the registry per the Manual Uninstall information, they won't cause any harm.
I also would be careful with the Install Shield Information folder. The Install shield information frequently has data stored there that applies to other installations besides Mcafee. Unfortunately, that's the problem with Mcafee, all of it doesn't go away with the regular uninstall.
But, if this is any help, you generally can detect what each .dll file is for, by RIGHT-clicking the file, then choosing "Properties". Then click on the "Version" tab at the top, and you can click through the "Item Names" in that tab and they will identify whether its a Mcafee related file. All the files related to Mcafee should be able to be deleted.

I just want to mention, after looking over my post. There are two different sources for the info. that I posted. I've got several documents on this issue, and have edited, but there are some duplicates there.
I just don't want you to be confused. Be sure you do a search in the Registry for all three I listed>>
McAfee, Network Associates, virusscan (no space in virusscan).
I hope this helps:)

Your welcome! I hope it works out for you. There were some problems with Norton 2001 a few mos. ago. I don't recall what it was all about.
I think they were going to put out a patch for it. If you do encounter some sort of problem, check their site for info. I sure don't want to burst your bubble right off. :o) I know it wasn't serious. =)
