I was told that you can change the administrator password by using the boot floppies. Is this true? and if so how is it done?

The "emergency boot floppies". The ones you make when you install the OS. I believe its the local password for a machine not even on a network.

if you can get to dos or command prompt you should be able to use the net user command to change the local admin password

NET USER [username [password | *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]
username {password | *} /ADD [options] [/DOMAIN]
username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]

if you cant then you can use a linux floppy mentioned in a post below "administrator password lost"

or you can look for lophtcrack which makes a copy of your sam database and then changes it

good luck

I have a program that boots from a floppy that will change the password of any account as long as it is not blank. Works quickly and easily. A must have for any administator. Drop me an email if you need it.

ATTN: Andy Smith just emailed me asking for the disk, but when I replied to his hotmail address, it gets kicked back as a bad address. If you read this, please send me your correct address and I'll send the files... Thanks.

Due to the overwhelming response to my last post, I have made the file available for download over the kazaa network. Obtain a copy of Morpheus (I use Morpheus preview edition) and search for NTpasswd.exe I hope this makes things easier.

I finally got a chance to use your little tool today.

I never thought I would see the day I loved a floppy disk. This thing is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks a lot.

I tried to find your program on Kazaa and didn't find it. Could you send it to me?
