Ok here's the deal. I have two accounts setup in Win2K, one is a user account and another is the admin account. I've don't remember the password for the admin account and the user account doesn't have priviledges to install software or make edits to the registry. It also can't do anything with the SAM. I tried a linux program that boots the machine into linux from a floppy and gives you the option to change the password of any account in the SAM, but it didn't work. It got as far as listing the admin account and the user account and let me make the password change, but when I booted back up and tried my new password, it didn't work. Other people have suggested putting the HDD in another Win2K machine and running it as a slave and then renaming the SAM to something else to reset the user accounts to a blank password, but I was wondering if there was an easier way? Any suggestions?

I've tried one linux program that made the claim to be able to change the admin password. It brought up all the user accounts and said it changed the password, but when I rebooted and tried the new password, it didn't work. It did say that it was copying the sam into a virtual drive... Is there a way for me to copy the sam to a floppy and crack it with LophtCrack?
