I have been searching high and low as well as talking to administrators on this one... My company has a Unix VPN server set up and any client computer running Windows 2000 SP2 or Win XP cannot establish a VPN connection. I am fairly certain that the encryption level used in SP2 is the reason that the connection is unestablishable... does anyone know of a way that I might get around this, without losing SP2?

What is the exact error message when the remote user can't connect?

It did not produce an error message. The connection worked but I was unable to pass data over the VPN connection.

Got it. Do the clients need to dialup first before connecting through the VPN. If so, there's an option in the applicable dialup connectoid properties/Network Tab.

It's labeled

Slip: Unix connection

This does not allow data transfer at all... and the VPN server is rendered unreachable... a standard Internet connection PPP should manage this VPN just fine, but for some reason it does not want to play nice with my client...

I have signed up for the Services for Unix on the Microsoft site.... hopefully this will help. [p]
I did get the connection working, needed to have the connection use Chap or MSchap authentication and that the data is not encrypted.

Seems very odd that it took all this work... and that now it just works. I think there were some adjustments made on the *NIX VPN box as well, but it seems that all is working for now... Thanks all

I'm glad you figured it out. I had my thoughts about the setup of the encryption but I felt you would have revisited it at some point yourself if need be.

I am waiting for further word on the support of data encryption from the *nix admin... they were having issues getting that to work, I will add any findings here in case others may need this information.
