Using XP I have been trying to connect to the net via a modem but all I ever get is 'Error 737 Loopback detected'

All my ISP settings are correct as far as I can tell and the help files don't really say much on how to fix it.

I have know idea how to fix it.

Seems like an odd error, but this is what Microsoft has to say...

Error Message:
Loopback was detected.

Explanation:
The local and remote computers that are involved in the PPP conversation are the same computer. This usually means that a device (for example, a modem) on the link is echoing characters back.

User Action:
Try resetting these devices. For other vendor's servers, it might indicate that the remote computer is attempting a teletypewriter (TTY) login before connecting. You can configure the connection for a post-connect terminal on the Security tab.

That's the same info that's in the help files. It tells you what's wrong but not how to fix it.

I know there is nothing wrong with my ISP for I'm connected now through 98.

See that's the problem. How do you do whatever it is they want you to do to fix it?

I recommed trying two things. One, delete your ISP's connection and make another through Dial Up Networking. Just use the same settings as before (username, password, phone number, tcp\ip settings), and see if that helps. Also, try using AT&F as an extra setting in your Modems Control Panel. That's just a simple command to set your modem back to the factory default setting. I'd say that works for about 98% of the modems I've dealt with. Good Luck.

Aparantly its a problem with my ISP and XP. A problem that they haven't yet resolved.

I was advised to loggin manually from XP.

Thanks for the help.
