The file is not a default file found on the 98 cd. I tried to extract a fresh copy via system file checker. No go... I have the file in my windows\system folder. send me an email at techsent@pacbell.net and I'll send you the file.

MSVCP60.DLL is a Microsoft C++ Runtime Library. I don't know what it comes with but 1 Win98SE has a version dated 11/30/1999, 1 Win98SE has a version dated 2/24/2000 (both have same version number 6.0.8168.0), and my WinXP Pro has it dated 8/23/2001 (Version 6.0.8972.0), which is the same date as most of the originally installed files.

I haven't figured out what uses it yet. I had a fleeting thought it may be used with Visual Basic for Applications, but the dates are wrong for Office, I have Office 2000 on a Win98 and WinXP and Office 97 on a Win98 and both version use VBA. So much for that idea.

It seems to be used for many different application environments and scenarios. When I originally posted, I found many references on the net.

Microsoft (R) Visual C++ for file name. I can't see what else it would be. I just looked, and mine was created Dec. 11, 2001??
That's about the time I repaired and reinstalled I.E., (approx.) and it is a system file...

VisualC++ is a programming language. Here's a page from the Microsoft dll library Enter the file name in the blank to get information about it.Various Microsoft programs which use it. But they are not the only ones. Other programs would require this too if written in Visual C++. It would be placed in Windows system by a program which required this library to run. And if it were missing, an error message would be generated when you tried to run the program.

If you need just the file "MSVCP60.dll" then you can download it at this link. Win Updates
Depending on the advice you receive an update to VisualC++ is available at MKB here Vcredist.exe Installs the Latest Run-Time Components for Visual C++ Applications
