Hi:
I'm unable to install any new programs or hardware to my system because when the Install Shield program starts working after I click on the program's setup.exe file, it closes down and I get an error message that says: Setup failed to launch installation engine - Error loading type library.dll.
When I called tech support for my computer (HP Omnibook 6000) I was told I would have to re-install Windows, but they didn't really sound like they were sure. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks very much in advance.

These Install Shield troubles can be very difficult.
Have a look at this link to see if it helps.
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/dcom1_3.asp (http://www.mainsoft.com/kb_mainwin/kbmw0076.html>http://www.mainsoft.com/kb_mainwin/kbmw0076.html</a>

)

Another option is to either Repair or update Internet Explorer.
One other thing I have not seen mentioned and which can't hurt is to Download an install the Newer version of the Windows Installer:
http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_26sp1.htm (http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,10615,67555,00.html>http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,10615,67555,00.html</a>
)
Don't forget to read the minimum requirementsto see if you meet them. This is usually for developers, but it has files which may resolve certain issues InstallShield is having.
That's about all I can think of to do. Hope something helps. Post back please and let us know. Good Luck.

Hey Enthusiast!
Wow, thanks so much for that fast and SUCCESSFUL reply to my post. I checked out the link and tried the different fixes - nothing worked until I tried the stdole32.tib thing - it was missing from my laptop but on present on my desktop - I merely copied it over and oila! it worked. I also followed the link to install the Windows 2000 installer onto my Windows 98 system.
Anyway, thanks so much again - that was great- I've never gotten a computer fix as fast as this.

rlitman,
That's great. I threw in all the extra information because to be honest, you are the first person I have ever heard from to resolve their InstallShield problems so quickly.
