I have a PDC and BDC, i want to make the BDC the PDC soon, but how do you copy folders with thier sharing and permission still attached?

Thanks

Not sure you are going to be able to retain the Share Permissions, but you should be able to save the NTFS Permissions. Do you have a backup system in place? If so you could back them up from Machine A, and restore them to Machine B. Then go back and re-share the directories. With this method you will still have the originals on Machine A to refer to as a guide to ensure the shares are done correctly. All the NTFS stuff will carry over with the restore job.

Thanks, got it sorted though!

Thought I'd post this for anyone with the same problem: The share data can be found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Shares, and in the ControlSet001 and ControlSet002 keys. Export these and put them on the Backup Domain Controller where your copied folders are (without their shares). As long as the folders are in the same path you can import the registry keys and then restart the server. The folders should now have their share info back!
