hey,

i recently reformatted my comp and reinstalled win98se. everything worked quite well, but i have a question about my device manager. I have two things listed under "other devices": "unknown device" (i dont even know what i can do for that...) and "PCI system managment bus" I cant find drivers for either on my windows and computer cd's, and i was wondering if any of you know what i should do for them, or at least the PCI one?

"PCI system managment bus" drivers may have come on a CD or floppy disk that came with the motherboard. Without fixing that issue, you may not get the other devices identifying or working correctly. Win98SE has a lot of drivers but sometimes not the best ones.

Even Dell provides software on a floppy or CD that sets up the motherboard resources in Windows. You may have to browse Dell's site with your model number and see what you can find. I've been there lots and found good online support files.

well i do have a dell resource cd, but it hasnt helped me. Ive searched for the needed driver multiple times without any success, and have also attempted to reinstall the driver with device manager looking for info on the cd, also without success. I have tried the site too...

I ran into a very similiar issue with a Dell I recently reformatted. The device driver is on the Dell Resource CD, but unfortunately it is in an extremely inane and confusing directory. I eventually ended up calling Dell and after giving them the info about my model they were able to steer me into the correct folder to get the device installed. If I remember correctly, it was the wave device that finally appeared, with the driver in a folder named 03m562a. And I wondered why I couldn't find it myself /images/forums/icons/crazy.gif

hutzmoose: hey thanks for the information, but im still not running into much luck here. ive been searching the cd through and through for 03m562a, and cant find it - do you happen to have the full path for the file? And also, what exactly do you mean by the wave device ?

thanks

I recently reformatted my Dell and have the same device conflict on my computer. I don't know what exactly this thing is for either but the Dell tech support told me not to worry about it that it was mainly for something to do with setting up faxlines? I am not too sure, you know how it is when you call ANY tech support! Please post if you find anything out.

Looks like loads of people are having the same problem with different vendors of motherboard. It seems W98 SE is not recognizing something on the system board. The majority of updates are indicating that the motherboard manufacturer supplies the patch.

If you post the Dell model number or system board vendor we may be able to help.
