I have Windows ME. I have a window that pops up on startup. It is a window that shows my system info such as hard drive space, etc. How do I disable this window from opening on startup?

Is it the white-line, white-letter on black display? If so, it is part of the boot-up process and is usually hidden by the 'brand-name' computers like Dell and Gateway with their logo.

It's a an ordinary window that remains open after the complete boot-up, as if I opened a window on my desk top. It's always the same window that shows my drive, space, etc. I usually just close it and proceed but it has become rather annoying. Of course it didn't use to be there and I have no idea why it's there now.
Thanks for your help

Look in Start, Programs, Startup for any reference to the window that is opening. If it is there, right-click it (in Win98) and delete it or drag it to the desktop just in case. In Win95, right-click the blank part of the Task Bar, Properties, Start Menu tab, Advanced button, and click the + beside Programs, navigate down to Startup, and delete from that folder.
If an icon is not in Startup, look in C:\Windows\win.ini and make sure it is not listed in the run= or load= lines (you should only have 1 of each).

I had the same problem - on startup regedit.exe was launched in a window. Just as you say, irritating but not fatal. It now appears to be fixed - see my thread on the Registry Forum under "Regedit launched on startup" (or similar) under "ramsdale". I have only just effected the fix and am testing everything to see if all is well. So far, so good. Good luck.

Sinfo (System Information) is designed to help advanced users and programmers by providing information on several behind-the-scenes aspects of Windows. Here's a link:

Has many other uses (closes the advert.dll hidden window, can move positions of windows, can re-name window titles, closes banner advertisments, and has an excelent Screen Capture built in.
After install, run it and look at the Processes tab.
