My Compaq has a NIC with WOL feature. Anyone could give some info about how to use this feature?

Are you on a physical network with other computers?

Yes I am.
What I actually want to do is:
the Compaq doesn't have auto power up feature in BIOS, and I do need the computer starts automatically at certain time of a day. So I am thinking maybe I can send some kind of activate signal from other computer on the LAN to wake it up.

I've not done it but supposedly it will wake up the computer when another computer accesses it. I don't know what you would need in the way of a program for the other computer to make the access call.

AMD provide a magic packet utility that can be used to wake up your WOL enabled system. The utility is specified as supporting Windows 95 and NT but it will possibly work in W2K also.

how about going to device manager and selecting the entry for the pc-card. There should be a "power management" tab. You can change the default behavior of the card.
