I posted this problem and not one single reply, not even an attempt to help. Guess the "experts" aren't so hot after all.
=================================
A friend of mine (not computer literate) has a poblem when first turning on her system. She recently started getting a flag when she first starts up her CPU, stating "The EXPLORER.EXE file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL" and she would click "OK" and all was well.

I found out that she was running version 5.0 and told her to install version 6.0 and maybe the KERNEL file would be overwritten and all would be ok again. She did install v. 6.0 and it runs fine, but on startup of the CPU she still gets this flag. I had her check the registery and verify the file was still there and it is.

Can anyoone suggest how this problem can be resolved??

Please try to be patient, after all it is the weekend.
Experts need some time off too. /images/forums/icons/wink.gif

Sure the problem is a nuisance, but at least she can still use her computer after an extra "OK" click. Not every problem has a quick easy solution.

I am not one of the resident experts but I did see your post earlier and spent over a half-hour searching for a solution. Sometimes the most seemingly simple annoyances are the hardest to solve. I could not find a applicable fix so I did not respond.

All I can think to do is try the <a target="_blank" href=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q194/1/77.asp>Internet Explorer Repair Tool</a>

Failing any further suggestions here, you should demand a refund. /images/forums/icons/frown.gif

When you installed 6.0 did you work your way up to it or did you just plow into the down load and plop 6.0....

This usually means that file number two is corrupt
or missing, and very often an older version file is the cause.

I searched the newsgroups, and also found this:

"There is however also a virus that creates a file named explorer.exe and puts
it into the folder c:\windows\explorer.exe

If you have this file then you need to get an uptodate antivirus and do a full scan of your computer.

The other possibility is that Kaaza software or some other app has replaced your kernel32.dll file with an older version."

Use Start - Find and search your hard drive for kernel32.dll. There should only be one copy and it will be in c:\windows\system.

When the file(s) are found, right click on each, select Properties and
check the version number, actual file size, and file creation date of each. Post that information back here.

You may eventually need to restore Kernel32.dll from your Windows CD-ROM.

Good luck, Tony

As Tony mentioned if a virus created a folder C:\Windows\Explore\Explore.exe vs being just in C:\Windows\Explore.exe

If this is what you have then go to
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

and perform the free online scan.

There must have been an attempt to re-install Windows.

That's the only way kernel32.dll may be changed. Go to the Dll Help Database and type in both filenames and locate the corrct one for the version of IE and Windows that your friend is running:
