Hi all,
I used the info I found in tweaks to create a set of new logos for my system. When I put them where they belong (logo.sys in C:, logow.sys & logos.sys in C:Windows) they do not display so I tried to install them by using Desktop Architect. This did not work either. When I try to install them, I get a message stating that the file must be 320x400 (which it is..) and 256 colors! (this I'm unsure of as MSPaint does not allow me to save as a BMP 256 colors, only as uncompressed or 16 bit.) Anyone experienced this before or know what I'm doing wrong?

Paint just doesn't usually have the horsepower to do what you want. Go to www.moochers.com and look in the Graphics section (menu on left) for a full program for editing your images. I thought this one might be interesting, and it's FREE.

Keep in mind that most of the Accessories in Windows are 'lite' versions of a commercial program that Microsoft bought/licensed to include in Windows so people could be somewhat productive, e.g. Notepad, Wordpad, HyperTerminal, Scandisk, Disk defragmenter, etc.

It seems strange that paint will not alow you to save as 256 color. All my logos were made by opening photos of my kids in paint altering the size of the pic. Then saving as256color bmp.Ido however get a message popup telling me I may lose some color bysaving it as 256.
Good luck Andrew

joey,

Sure, Paint should allow you to save in 256 color.
Here's the info I have on creating them:

These files are standard 256 color Windows bitmap files with dimensions of 320(w) x 400(h). You can use basically any image editing program to change them (as long as it supports BMP files).

Just make sure that the proportions of 320(w) x 400(h) are maintained. The file once finished should be 129,078 bytes.
