Re-detect hardware

How do I make Win 9x re-detect hardware?

You can go to device manager and remove the device entry and then click refresh. Not all items will reinstall on the fly.

example..

If you removed the sound entries and clicked Refresh, the drivers would be re-loaded immediately. If you removed something like the display adapters you would have to reboot (and rebooting my not re-install the drivers automatically).

Or..

you can remove the applicable device entry in device manager and/or uninstall the applicable drivers. then shut down and physically remove the hardware. Boot up. Shutdown again. Re-insert the Hardware. Boot up.
