I am running Windows 98SE. I have purchased a second hand licensed copy of Windows ME but when I try to upgrade to Me a message box tells me I can only use an 'upgrade' version of Windows Me. Rather than spend even more money does anyone know if I can simply delete the windows directory (which is in it's own partition on the hard disk) and then install the full version of Windows ME?

You can do it but unless you are going to edit movies, I wouldn't. Win98SE is about as stable as it gets considering it still has to be 16-bit compatible. If you are looking for stability, get Windows XP. If I was to install WinMe, I would clean the hard drive completely and do a fresh install, then put my programs back on. WinME seems to run better that way. And BE SURE your computer meets the requirements, there is a separate list (higher requirements) if doing movie work.

Be sure to backup your data, stuff that exists nowhere else.
