Hi all,
Recently started working at a new job (Not in IT....YET) and came across a problem I can't seem to track down.
While using our proprietary web based software and another browser window open, got an error message, unfortunately I don't have the exact error, but it was similar to "WinUpd in API 'connect'" -- Not a GPF or IPF, just that with an OK button. That is not the exact error, but I know the API 'connect' is right..... After I OK'd, did not have any network connectivity. This is after about 10 minutes. Reboot, 10 minutes later, same issue.
After calling IT so they could fix it, 3 guys and 20 minutes, and a network install of IE6 later I got tired of watching them fumble around and say "I don't have a clue what that error is"; suggested that they remove the NIC, slick the network and let everything rebuild. Head IT guy <whadda friggin' joke!> said "We don't have time to PLAY with that. But you can try to do it if you want"
So, went through with my suggestion after all 3 of the IT guys left snickering to themselves, and things are better but not perfect. I have gotten the error 2X since I rebuilt everything (7 hours of use and 2 errors), but now it doesn't kill my connection, I can reload either browser window and everything works fine after that.
Specifics of the system:
Win98SE, 128 RAM, Pent III, Kingston NIC, ATI Video card
Running software:
Viruscan <UGH!>
IE6 (Was 5.5)
ATI controls (display adapter)
Connected to internal LAN, IP assigned by DHCP, NT 4.0 for the server
I know that without the exact error message it is more difficult, but has anyone ever came across a similar situation before?
I feel like I am on the right track but I haven't quite made it all the way yet.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated......
Jim
