I often delete items directly from the folder, and eventually i have a lot of shortcuts that lead to nowhere...

Is there a way to NOT have Windows98 automatically create shortcuts when i use "Save As"?

As always, thank you.

If you are not using the uninstall feature that comes with programs or the Add/Remove programs feature in the control panel, you will nearly always have icons and other files left over from deleting out of folders. The install routines create the icons/shortcuts. If you copy shortcuts to other places from their installed folder, they won't be deleted when the program is uninstalled, as the uninstaller doesn't know about them, so you have to manually delete them.

Also if you have a multi user platform the know short cuts will only be removed from the desktop (profile) that you use the uninstall program on.
Also the keys are left behind in the registry
So you can see you will never get rid of all stuff unless you do hand clean up!

Thanks

This Is just my opinion
So if it stinks wait for another one

If your talking about the shortcuts that show up in the "My Documents" secondary entry under the regular folder then the answer is "Yes". It is a registry tweak which can be done with Tweak UI or any other similar program.

You can use MS Checklinks tool to remove dead shortcuts and links.

The tools can be found in the Windows 98 Resouce Kit Tools Sampler. It is on your CD and not installed by default.
