internet explorer installation problem

I try to install Internet Explorer 6 on my Windows 2000 Professional, but when the progess up to about 2 %. there's a error message shown on my screen that is something about signature is invalid, and there's just "OK" and "More Info" buttons to click. If I hit "OK" then the installtion will be abort. I try to install other version, such as I.E. 5.5 SP2, but the error message still shown. (P.S. I've downloaded the program many times.)
What should I do now? Help please!
