Hi there,

Here is something to do with Windows File Protection System that i faced, I just installed/upgrade my IE to version 6 lastnite, after the installation completed, there is a message that asked me to insert my W2K Pro CD inside the CDROM coz it says something about the Windows File Protection, where some files cannot be replaced in order to get the system runs smoothly, (yet it is eventhough) and the icon of IE and Outlook Express does not changed to the latest icon for IE6 except the IE browser icon on the quick launch bar.
So what i tried is i tried to manually change the icon property, but i got a access denied error, eventhough i m a administrator...

Any help please?

Thanks

I read through my 2000 Pro resource Kit. It mentions that WFP is two-fold. The first mechanism runs in the background and the second one is the System File Checker. It then goes on to state that the SFC interacts with the Dll cache folder. It gives a command to repair the data in the folder.

sfc /purgecache

go to Dos. type in the command and hit enter. Reboot.

This will let the icons to behave normally in IE6?

I don't know for sure. My posting is my own personal idea of the fix. It may not work. However, since the resource of the command option came from Microsoft's own kit, it should be safe enough to test out.

(unfortunately, I don't have 2000 installed at the moment or I would have run the command myself).
