when I start up my presario 7222 I get the message that C:\windows\Emm386.exe is missing or corrupt, and an error in config.sys file line 5.
Presently I am aborting to open windows, but am unable to locate the problem. I am running windows 95 OS.

emm386.exe is a memory manager that was in MS-DOS 6.xx and sometimes is used in Win9x to run programs.
Two things you can do:
You can extract a fresh copy of emm386.exe from your CD at Win95, WIN95_09.CAB
If you are having no other problems, try editing config.sys at the DOS prompt (c:\edit config.sys) and put rem and a space at the beginning of the line referring to emm386.exe, and reboot. If there are other problems, post them.

Truthfully, I don't think a config.sys file is neccessary in win9x
I'd open Windows Explorer to the root of the c: drive, right-click on config.sys, choose rename, and name it config.old. Then shutdown and restart.
To prevent an error message when running sysedit, right-click in that right pane, choose new>Text Document, name it config.sys. Ignore the warning message.
