View Full Version : Generic Error Installing WinME on Athlon system

Please help if you can. I'm building my own pc (Athlon XP1900, MSI K7T266 Pro2RU mobo, nVidia video card, Audigy sound card, generic DVD rom drive, some other stuff) and trying to load WinME.

During the install, at about 10% of the way into the "file copy" procedure, I get a "Generic Installer Error" Message SU99405 stating UpdateInis=processing error (0x195).

In the setuplog.txt file I get the following at the end:

[FileQueue]
GetSectionFromCache NoMem pFN->FileFlags: 4 File=:C:\WINBOOT.INI:
GenInstall() ERROR!:GenInstall Section :SetupNewWIN: with sub-section :Setup.Init.Inis: ErrorCode=202, ErrorCode2=405
SUMB:Generic installer Error:Message SU99405

UpdateInis= processing error.
(0x195):OK
Restart=Failed

I've tried the msoft knowledge base, but couldn't find anything to address this. I'm starting from scratch with a clean hard drive. Booting from the WinME startup disk that the install creates (it makes it through the entire q&a section at the beginning of the load).

I'm planning to go to XP eventually. Should I punt on the ME install and just go for it? Any guess as to whether I'd get the same error?

Thanks for ANY suggestions!!

Regards,

Will

Smitty - Thanks for the suggestion. The error is a generic one, so the sites referenced by the search didn't help much. However, thanks for the idea of using Google for tech support searches -- a simple concept but one I hadn't considered. I actually paid a visit to the mobo's website and found a very active user forum there, including a step-by-step setup guide. After tweaking the heck out of the BIOS based on suggestions from the guide, I got past the error and was able to install WinME.

Of course, I can't get the mobo to recognize my RAID 0 setup yet, but let's take one thing at a time!!

Again, thanks for your willingness to suggest SOMETHING. You're the only one to respond to my inquiry on FOUR newsgroups (well, so far anyway...)

Sorry it didn't do the TRICK...

Thanks for the feedback..This a very good forum of which I am a relatively junior member. I am sure you will be a welcome asset.
