i run win98, i have a problem with "Kernel32.dll" this file is preventing me from upgrading my old version of (winamp v 2.64 to any later versions such as 2.76 ,2.77, 2.78 . after i remove my old version from computer i install the new version and i run the program when i choose to play any sound file i get the following message "program performed illegal operation and must be shut down" details say something about error in the previous file mentioned , the winamp support team couldn't solve that problem, a friend told me that i could replace the "Kernel32.dll" with another file of same name and type copied from another users computer running the same win98.is that possible? ,and how can i do it properly without damaging my system.

It is entirely possible the problem is not kernel32.dll. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, and under Tools, choose System File Checker. Run it and see if it finds any of the installed files that have been corrupted. Have your Win98 CD handy.
