View Full Version : Running scandisk on bootup
I operate win 95b Version 4.o(1212.b)Until recently if I closed down the computer in error, on start up the computer ran scandisk automatically to check for errors. For some reason I am now faced with a black screen following the widows screen stating "there was an error running Scandisk.exe or it was cancelled.Run scandisk for windows as you may still have errors on your disks.Press any key to continue. I then successfully run scandisk manually. How do I restore running Scandisk on boot up if windows is shutdown incorrectly? I have tried adding Autoscan=2 to msdos.sys without success.I understand this feature is only available on windows OSR 2 and greater.I" not sure how my version ranks.

Check for winstart.bat file on your machine, it could be preventing MSDOS.SYS from performing as it should.
Concerning your error message..try these excellent sites
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.logic-control.com/support/technotes/scandisk.htm>ScanDisk Runs After Improper Shutdown or Hard Disk Error</a>

For help on determining your Win95 version there was a post here recently, but if you cannot find it, another excellent site.
