I posess install version of IE6 on CD. I installed (on clean disk) Windows98 and then upgraded to IE6 two times before (on two computers) without any problem.
I have repeated the fresh installing procedure on one of mentioned computer (Win98 and then IE6). But now IE6 installing fails! The program is trying to download necessery files no matter that they already exist on CD. I tried to add some language support on the other computer in order to test and the program is trying to download files again. Then I put CD in the third computer with Win98 and the program started to install IE without downloading. I am pretty confused now. What the decision about downloading or not downloading depends on???

Many thanks and sorry for bad English.

With mine it pretty much depended on the original installation. If I chose the default installation the first time, I didn't get every thing I needed if I later installed a Service Pack and wanted something more, like Virtual Machine. Downloads of service packs tailor themselves to what you have installed and if you change, it needs an internet connection to get more files.

Not sure, but how do you know what files it is looking for?

I've had this message before but there's no indication what files it's looking for.

Is there no internet connection to finish the install?

I have successed!! I choose Full instead of Custom installation. I still don't know exatcly what's the point but now it isn't matter for me anymore.

Best regards!
