Hi, following the recent spate of email induced virii , id like to uninstall Outlook Express and use another, hopefully less virus-friendly email handler.
Can anyone recommend one and also advise me on the uninstall of Outlook Express as well as the add / remove program. ie: what problems can i expect with IE5.5 after Outlook Ex is gone and will the old Outlook Express program return to haunt me?
Thnx in advance for any assistance.

I notice your email address is AOL. I assume it's yours? You don't need an email program, if that's the case. AOL has a very secure email program. You can't get viruses by just opening the mail.
Uninstalling Outlook Express won't have any effect on I.E., as far as I know. It doesn't need to be installed with I.E. in the first place.

Of course the AOL address is my own, however, i do have other accounts with various servers for business reasons. (6 in all).
They all need to be checked daily.
This is why i need a new client.
But thanks for attempting to answer anyway.
Can anyone else help with my query please?

You didn't say that in your post. However, concerning uninstalling Outlook Express, I did answered your question. Simply uninstall it in Add-Remove. Why would it come back to haunt you??!

You do not need to uninstall OE. Just change your email client to the new one.
Note: All email clients have vunerabilities. You avoid problems by adjusting your settings to minimize the vunerabilities in conjunction with AV software and I use Script Sentry and Zone Alarm Mailsafe.
I am using Outlook and have not contracted a single virus. There have been several showing up in my inbox and every one of them was stopped.

Outlook express can block attachments that are harmfull you can add a restricted site list to explorer and use it,, turn off active X and script What you do is turn off active x in the restricted site and tell OE to use IE restricted site
You can get a virus also in any program if you do not update the antivirus program on a regular basis
the biggest tip is if you do not know who sent the mail or it is junk mail DO NOT OPEN IT..
Mcafee Vshield will scan mail for known viruses
I have four users I have my putter locked down
read my page of notes when you get to installing the restricted site it will give you direction in the readme file
Read This Click here (http://www.geocities.com/putertuneup/CTP1.html)
Thanks

Try a Mail Client called Eudora.Think one of their latest versions is like Eudora Pro 5.1 or something. I prefer Outlook over Eudora, but Eudora has interesting options to play with. Check it out if you want.

I have found that using OE and AOL is not a good idea. They don't play well with each other. A good one to try, like someone already said, is Eudora. It is more user friendly. OE makes me want to pull my hair out.
I think you will like using Eudora.

You asked how to uninstall OE. Try this:
http://98lite.net/ieradicator.html
It will eradicate all traces of OE.

You can set internet explorer to open hotmail by going to internet options(under tools) -> programs -> change e-mail to hotmail, apply, ok, click mail, then read mail..also, if you need a program for your other pops, try mailstart.com, it doesnt work with propriatary pops and providers (aol, juno, hotmail), but it does with standard port /protocol pop3 servers. good luck

Regarding Eudora - are you aware of all the spyware that comes bundled with it??
Below are the results of a spyware system scan after Eudora installation:
Scan initialized on 11/12/01 14:08:38.
