Phantom PnP Audio Device

After a clean re-install of Win98SE I am plagued with a 'phantom' 'New Hardware Found' message. It concerns a device 'CM18330 Audio Adaptor' and is looking for a driver for this mythical device. I have no such device or card installed. Any ideas on how to rid myself of this recurring nightmare.??

Have you tried installing the drivers for the sound card you have installed when it prompts you for drivers for the "mythical device".

Try this. Go to Device Manager and find it. It will probably be listed as Other Devices or under Sound, video and game controllers with a red x or yellow Exclamation point. Find it and double click on it. A new Page will appear. At the bottom there will be a box "Disable in this Hardware Profile." Check that box. Reboot and see if the error message is gone.
