Snail Pace

I have a AMD 550mhz pc with 192mb ram, and WinMe runs smoothly, and boots swiftly. I also have a Pentium3 500mhz machine with 384mb ram, but it takes an age to boot up (with no more programs in the startup procedure than the other PC) and really struggles during processor usage (i.e. applying effects in music editing / video editing. That is to say, when I try to apply a setting, the 0-100% bar appears, races to about 15% then drips all the way up to 100%. Could this be anything to do with Virtual Memory ?

The spec of the offending machine (which incidentaly FLIES with W98) is
:-
8.4GB HD
384MB ram
500mhz Pentium 3 processor.

The Milennium Edition OS on both machines are the FULL versions, NOT upgrades.

Any help please ?

The first thing to do is to go to My computer, right click>Performance tab.
Does it say Your computer is comfigured for optimal performance?

Or does it say that one or more drives are in Ms Dos Compatibility mode?
