I prefer to use IE to open JPG files in one IE browser. In Win98 2nd Ed. I can open many JPG files in one brower and use the Back and Forward buttons to scroll thru the pictures. Using Win2000 I get a new browser for each file opened. Running Win2000 SP2 with IE5.5. I'm thinking the answer might be hidden somewhere in the registry. TIA for any help.

This past posting is for 98. Hopefully 2000 is the same.

Thanks for the quick response. There are some differences between Win98 and W2K. First I changed the file associativity for jpg to IE and tested it to make sure that IE does open a jpg file.

Looked in the registry, found the jpegfile key, but it still pointed to PhotoEd. Did some more searching and found pjpegfile key which matched the Win98 jpegfile key and it did point to IE as the program.

Not sure where to look now. Any more ideas? Thanks again for your help.

Sure. No Problem.

Nice detective work!

I never noticed the pjpegfile.

I was on 2000 tonight and noticed the the jpeg subkey has the same entries as the 98 subkey and the 2000 pjpegfile.

Use the registry to export the existing jpegfile subkey.
Next..

copy everything between the lines below into notepad. Sae the file as change.reg Add the entries in.

I have found you need to be sure of one more thing if you want to open in same. Internet Options>advanced
"Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts" has to be checked or the images open in separate windows.

Thanks again for hanging in here. Copied the file into the registry and still no change. I did have to change the drive letter to E: as I have a dual boot disk along with some other partitions.

Hate the thought of asking MS as they are going to charge $35 per incident. If you have any more ideas...I'm game.

Have the "Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts" option checked.

Is it not working yet?
If not, try giving the IE Repair option a try. But first. Uncheck it. Recheck it. Sometimes a gentle reminder helps Windows see things.

Control Panel>Add remove Programs>Internet explorere entry. Click Remove. Choose Repair from the options you will see.

I realize my reply is not anything like you are looking for but if you are interested in a pretty good alternative; take a look at PhotoPlayer freeware version. It is a standalone program and 388kb in size. I like it. 3rd one down on the page.
You can always trash it later.

Still not working. Tried the uncheck and recheck on reuse window. Also tried the IE repair option as well.

Thanks to all that have participated. Certainly appreciate your time and thoughts. Will take a look at the Unidreamtech software if necessary. Still think that if it works in Win98 there should be a way in W2K.

Posted on the MS newsgroup page. Have no idea if anyone will respond like everyone has on this board.

If I ever find the solution, I'll post the answer here for everyone who might be interested.Rick
