Public Relations Manager – Consumer Security Software (San Francisco)

PC Tools is a leader in security software in the consumer space. In the niche area of security software, we are seeking an experienced PR manager to grow the US PR for our company. Starting with a small team, we expect you to have the know how to grow the US PR for our company while building a successful PR team in parallel.

Experience in Security Software (Anti-virus, Anti-spyware etc) for the consumer market is highly favored and a passion for all things “geeky.”

Role outline:

· Manage the US PR for PC Tools with the main objective to grow the business through PR coverage and reviews

· Implement and drive a successful and innovative PR strategy for the US to grow the PC Tools brand

· Develop and execute tactical PR programs to build and position PC Tools as a premium, innovative brand in the consumer and trade press (both online and offline) as well as industry analysts and key influencers.

· Assist in identifying key brand and product messages and create press materials that support master brand and product initiatives and opportunistic company news.

· Drive thought leadership through PC Tools’ key spokespeople and research.

· Assist in creating communications plans and other activities to support product launches and other company announcements.

· Develop news hooks, feature story ideas and create messaging around them. Shape strategies for proactive outreach. Include products as well as bigger-picture pieces that include round-ups, industry or lifestyle trends, etc.

· Initiate and maintain positive relationships with media. Seek out new media.

· Work w/ management to determine budgets for PR programs and manage budget.

· Collaborate with other PR teams around the globe to execute successful strategies for PC Tools.

· Work with the marketing team to develop copy and messaging for press kits, fact sheets, bios, media alerts, talking points, and supporting marketing materials.

· Manage all PR assets, online media area, and editorial calendars for the US.

· Track PC Tools’ presence in print, broadcast, and online media. Be aware of key industry and competitor’s business and PR developments

· Deliver concise, timely and informative reporting on press activities, coverage, opportunities, successes and press feedback.

· Build the PR team in the US as it grows.

Required:

  • At least 5 years PR experience
  • Knowledge of the IT industry – “a passion for all things geeky”
  • Industry contacts in the consumer and consumer IT space
  • Bachelor degree in communications, journalism, marketing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superb media relations acumen
  • Consummate professional and team player
  • Impeccable attention to detail and highly organized
  • Excels in a fast paced environment
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
