PC Tools Labs showcases some of the projects that are currently being explored by our Research and Development teams.
At PC Tools we are constantly researching and creating new technologies and applications with the goal of providing our users the best anti-malware and system utilities in the industry. Some of these creations may only have specific uses or be too technical for every-day use, therefore would normally not be released to the public.
This page previews some of the projects and research that PC Tools is involved with. You can even download some of the tools that have been developed by us and are used internally by our research staff. Feel free to browse through our projects and participate in discussions or send in your suggestions via our Forum.

Browser Defender

The Browser Defender™ toolbar allows you to surf safely by displaying site ratings as you browse the Internet. When you visit a site its address will be checked by our servers and a rating shown in the toolbar based on any malicious behavior or threats we have found associated with the site.
The toolbar also integrates with the search results provided by popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo! so you can see if it is safe to continue before you visit a site.
Threat Expert
Threat Expert is an advanced patented automated threat analysis system (ATAS) designed to analyze and report the behavior of computer viruses, worms, trojans, adware, spyware, and other security-related risks in a fully automated mode.
Alternate Operating System Scanner

Alternate Operating System Scanner (AOSS) is a bootable anti-spyware scanner which is able to run independently within its own self contained operating system. AOSS is not dependant on Microsoft® Windows® to be running on the PC, which enables AOSS to more effectively check, detect and remove deeply embedded spyware, adware and other malware, such as rootkits.

Malware Research Center
PC Tools runs an active and highly-specialized research lab, known as the Malware Research Center, which is devoted to researching and identifying new spyware and malware infections for inclusion into our comprehensive anti-spyware database, which forms the 'brains' behind Spyware Doctor.
Patch Scanner

PC Tools Patch Scanner scans your computer for missing Windows updates and displays the results in an easy to read list. You have the option of scanning for security related updates, or alternatively, scanning for and displaying all missing updates.
ThreatExpert Memory Scanner

ThreatExpert Memory Scanner (TEMS) is an experimental lab product developed by the ThreatExpert team.
TEMS is a "post-mortem" diagnostics tool designed to detect a range of high-profile threats in different regions of a computer's memory.
This tool is designed to assist in answering a common question asked by many customers whose systems have been susceptible to threats: "Is my system still infected?"
Pocket Guardian

Pocket Guardian™ is a lightweight security alert system for Windows Mobile based devices. Pocket Guardian is designed to detect and optionally block changes to sensitive settings and load points on your Mobile devices.
Pocket Guardian does not rely on traditional anti-virus signatures and is therefore able to provide protection against new, unknown, threats. With Pocket Guardian you are always protected and even previously unseen malware, such as targeted threats and Trojans do not have an opportunity to do you any damage.
